Proofreading
While writing apps and AI help produce content, a proofreader supports a client’s voice, brand and goals, and ensures text is contextualised and in the right type of English (British, Canadian, Australian, etc.). Proofreaders want their clients to succeed and will help you to produce professional-looking work as best they can.
Proofreading (or proofing) is a final quality check of a written text or text set in a design. A proofread is usually done just before publishing or printing. You can request a proofread of your website, apps, business documents, brochures, manuscripts, newsletters, blogs, social media content, etc. The objective of a professional proofreader is to reduce errors as much as possible by checking:
- for mistakes in spelling and typos, punctuation, hyphenations, and page references
- (if the document has been formatted/in typeset) that the layout and format are correct and consistent, looking for things like odd spaces, odd word breaks, hyphen stacks, orphan and widow lines, and incorrect placement of captions and images
- that basic facts are consistent within the document (proofreaders do not fact-check)
- for basic consistency and clarity
I am happy to proofread non-fiction texts in various formats, for example, MS Word, Google Docs, PDF, Canva, WordPress.org, WordPress, com, Shopify, etc. And you can choose how you want your document corrected (‘marked up’). For example, I can use track changes, comments tools or list issues in an email – the choice is yours. Before hiring me, you can ask me to proofread a sample (two pages) for FREE. Just get in touch by emailing hello@nazneenes.com.
(If you are worried about sharing materials, copyright law automatically protects your work, and a professional proofreader will state in their Terms that you are the copyright holder.)

Proof-editing
Proof-editing is a combination of proofreading and light copy editing. The aim of a proof-edit is to improve your reader’s experience and to reduce errors. For business users, proof-editing is a great option if you need help sharpening, contextualising or restructuring your online content. For self-publishers, it’s a helpful option if you do not have the budget to hire both a copy editor and a proofreader.
You can expect my proof-edits to make your writing clearer by:
- suggesting minor-to-medium edits to wording, sentences and paragraph structures
- suggesting improvements to increase readability and clarity
- strengthening logic, flow, consistency
- making consistent your voice throughout the text
- reducing jargon and applying clearer English (if this is appropriate)
- proofreading
