About me

Nazneen is an Entry-level Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP). She is a trained and experienced proofreader, proof-editor and web editor who offers business support and author support.

Hello!

Thanks for checking me out!

I’m Nazneen. I enjoy working for entrepreneurs and small businesses and helping them achieve their goals.

Every client’s style, values, audience, and personal comfort zone matter to me and inform how we work together and what I deliver.

You can hire me for a one-off project or for regular support over a period of weeks or months – my services are flexible, and we can discuss what works for you.

You can test me out for free! No two proofreaders or editors are the same, so to help you feel confident about working together, you can send me two pages of your text or two web pages (learn about sending a sample here) and see if I am a good fit or not.

If you want to chat, email me at hello@nazneenes.com to let me know a good time to phone or video call you. I don’t make hard sales, and I won’t ask you to commit to anything on the call.

More about me

I’m a Londoner, born and bred. I travelled, lived, and worked in Asia for five years. My husband and I were based in Kobe, Tokyo, and Dhaka, and we travelled as much as possible within the region. Since 2012, we’ve lived in East London, close to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney Marshes and Walthamstow Wetlands.

I have a BA Hons in History and Politics (QMUL) and an MA in Public Administration (University of York).

My work history includes public sector organisations (government and international development NGOs) in the areas of city government administration, public health and management. Before I became a stay-at-home parent, I was a manager of a team of 20 administrative staff and 300 field research staff for the Programme for Infectious Diseases and Vaccine Science (PIDVS) at the ICDDR,b, an international public health hospital and research centre.

Proofreading, editing, and writing have always been (informally) part of my professional work. This included working with technical experts (researchers, scientists, health consultants, government specialists, etc) to develop their literature for their specialist and non-specialist stakeholders. Examples include grant bids and donor reports, the electoral forms and instructions (for the 2008 London Elections, and pamphlets and training materials for health practitioners in Bangladesh and Kenya.

After returning to the UK and having children, I chose to work from home. I began selling handmade blankets on Etsy and Amazon Handmade, as well as proofreading and editing as a freelancer. As the editing requests became more frequent, I became a professional proofreader and invested in my training and development. In 2020, I became an Entry-level Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), which means I adhere to a professional code and am required to invest in my continuous professional development to widen and deepen my skills.

My editorial experience includes the following subjects: non-fiction, public sector, management, public health, health and wellbeing, mental health, nutrition, diabetes, children and young people, parenting, e-commerce, retail, coaching and platform building.

I’m also a novice grower of things in my tiny, urban garden. I still enjoy selling online. I’m not a great cook, but I love good food. I’m learning to sew garments. I always have a home improvement project going on. And, of course, I love to read!

I’m an eclectic reader. I love fiction and non-fiction. This includes culture zines, health and money blogs, English classics, and social, economic and political history books. I enjoy learning about how the English language; I read a lot about productivity, entrepreneurship, parenting and mental health. I’m also a fan of myths and legends. My podcast library is similar to my bookshelf library but with more comedies and film reviews in the mix.
